Altered and relocated existing organ. Identified by Douglas H. Cable, based on personal knowledge of the organ. -- Guzowski & Steppe Organbuilders, Inc. of Fort Lauderdale, FL have recently completed installing an organ in St. Benedict-s Episcopal Church, Plantation, FL.
The organ of 3 manuals and 55 ranks was built by The Möller Organ Company as Opus 9885 ca.1964 – 1980. It was originally built for the Princeton Theological Seminary Chapel. In June of 1999 it was removed to make way for a new instrument and was placed in storage in Fort Lauderdale while the new Sanctuary was being designed and built.
While in storage the organ suffered water damage when the roof of the storage facility was torn off by Hurricane Wilma. The water damaged windchests and reservoirs were repaired and a new layout was engineered for the more commodious chambers. Installation and tonal finishing was completed on August 17, 2006.
The instrument was a gift to St. Benedict-s by Capt. William Bailey, USCG (Ret.) in memory of his late Wife, Dorothy. A new set of chimes were donated by Capt. Bailey-s son Brian.
