Jeff Scofield on January 10, 2021:

Originally installed at First Methodist Church in 1961; according to the November 1962 issue of THE AMERICAN ORGANIST, "the placement of the organ is in an elliptical gallery above the choir and organist. The floor of the chamber is a perforated metal grille through which the choir hears the instrument." The congregation merged with Erwin United Methodist Church in 1997; in 1998, Kerner & Merchant renovated and relocated the organ from First UMC to Erwin UMC, now Erwin First UMC; a Trumpet stop was added to the Great and Choir; the former First UMC building is now Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church.
