NOTES
This organ was originally built for and installed in First Baptist Church in Bremerton,
Washington. It was a custom chambered installation without the Möller “Artiste” self-
contained case.
In 1961, the organ was listed for sale, and subsequently sold to St. Andrew's Episcopal
Church in Tacoma where it was reinstalled in a constructed rear gallery chamber by Pacific
Lutheran University Professor and organ technician Dr. R. Byard Fritts. It served there
until 2014 when St. Andrew's purchased a used 2-manual Paul Fritts tracker from Grace
Lutheran in Tacoma. The Möller had to go quickly because there was asbestos tile abatement
to be done in the gallery before the Fritts could be reinstalled.
The organ was given to Puget Sound Pipe Organs of Stanwood, Washington who found a home for
it here at St. Philip's before it was even removed. It came straight from St. Andrew's to
St. Philip's in three trailer loads in August of 2014. Installation began in September. The
organ pipes were washed. Both regulators were releathered. The Trumpet pipes had their
shallots and reed tongues polished. New twill tape was installed in all scallop racks. All
new NEC-compliant wiring was installed. A new, free-standing chamber was built by Puget
Sound Pipe Organs to house the instrument at the rear of the nave. A used Balcom and Vaughan
console from PSPO inventory was installed in-place of the original Möller console which was
air-driven and in need of restoration or conversion. The stoplist was almost identical,
though the 2' Viole Fifteenth and 4' Clarion extension pipes are not used in the Balcom and
Vaughan console specification.
The blower proved to be problematic, and had to be re-wound when one of the windings broke
and shorted against the interior frame of the metal motor housing.
The church hopes to enlarge the organ in the future which will include converting the orig-
inal Moller console to solid state, and adding another 5-rank Möller chest from PSPO inven-
tory, and for which a chest frame has already been installed.
The organ was dedicated November 20, 2014 with organist Mike Gagnon, guest organist and
Marysville resident Halden Toy, the choir of St. Aidan's Episcopal on Camano Island under
the direction of Steve Jensen, and a trio group called Affetuoso.
