NOTES
This organ was originally built for the German Lutheran Church at Stewart and
Terry in downtown Seattle. It was a 2-manual, 7-rank, free-standing, encased,
tubular-pneumatic organ with an attached keydesk. It was installed in the rear
gallery. The organ was purchased as a memorial, and a plaque at the console
reads:

The chimes were added in 1943, again as a memorial, and the plaque at the console
reads:

The chimes were likely played from their own separate keyboard since the Estey
was still tubular-pneumatic when they were added.

When the congregation moved from the old church to the present Wallingford lo-
cation, the organ was removed, electrified, and reinstalled by Balcom and Vaughan
with a new console, and placed entirely under expression in an elevated chamber
on the left side of the chancel. This work cost $3,447.90. All original Estey
chests and pipes were retained.

Later tonal changes and additions were made by various people, The Great 2-2/3'
Nasard and 2' Flautina are used pipes from a Mixture. They were added by Richard
Warburton. The 2-2/3 is on the original Great Dulciana toeboard. The 2' Flautina
is on an added direct-electric chest. The Great 4' Octave is a Harmonic Flute
with the holes covered in plumber's putty. The 8' Open Diapason is partly original
Estey, and partly Jardine from a tracker originally built for Shortridge Memorial
Christian Church in Butte, Montana. The Haskelled bass of the Swell 8' Salicional
is actually the original Great 8' Dulciana bass.

All of the pipes were removed and cleaned in 1993 as a gift by Jim Stettner – 
then of Balcom and Vaughan – assisted by Mike Gagnon and several parishioners.
Many note pneumatics were also re-leathered in order to raise and restore the
proper pressure to the organ. This was done the night before an anniversary in
which the Bishop would be in attendance.

The congregation had had leadership difficulties and problems with dwindling
membership. In 1997, the church was closed temporarily and reorganized as Gift
of Grace Lutheran Church. That congregation later severed the console cable
rendering the organ unplayable. It's subsequent status and disposition are
unknown.
