NOTES
The original Kimball organ operated by means of tubular-pneumatic action on
ventil chests. It was 10 ranks with 5 on the Swell, 4 on the Great, and 1 in
the Pedal. The keydesk was attached and projecting with a folding cover which
opened to form a music rack. Stops were as drawknobs protruding through an
angled board on either side of the keydesk.
In 1946, Balcom and Vaughan was contracted to electrify the organ. Their opus
list still gives the size as 10 ranks, so apparently no tonal changes or
additions were made. The Pedal 16' Bourdon was likely increased to 32 notes
from the original 30.
In 1969, Balcom and Vaughan was again contracted for organ work. A new A.G.O.
compatible console with combination action was provided and apparently some
additions were made. This likely included the Swell 8' Voix Celeste and may
have also included the 8' Trumpet.
In 2004, Marceau & Associates Pipe Organ Builders of Portland, Oregon were
contracted to build a new façade for the organ, provide a solid state relay
and combination action, and make further tonal additions and changes. The
original Kimball ventil chests are still extant. On the Swell, the 8' Geigen,
8' Stopped Flute, 8' Salicional, 4' Principal, and 4' Harmonic Flute are on
the ventil chest. On the Great, the 8' Open Diapason, 8' Melodia, 8' Dulciana,
and 4' Flute d'Amour are on the ventil chest. And the Pedal 16' Subbass is
still on its original ventil chest.
The pipes of the Great 4' Flute d'Amour are apparently either the original
or another used Stopped Diapason. The stopper handles are not bored. The
Great 16' Bourdon is borrowed from the Pedal 16' Subbass and plays for 56
notes.
On the Swell, the 1-3/5' Tierce breaks-back to 3-1/5' pitch for the top 4
notes. The 1-1/3' Larigot is from the 2-2/3' Nasard, but without extension
and plays for only 49 notes.
