Votey Organ Co. succeeded the pipe organ business of Farrand & Votey firm of Detroit, Michigan; Farrand retained the reed organ portion in an amicable split. Edwin S. Votey operated the new company from c. 1897 to c. 1898. Votey merged with Aeolian to form Aeolian-Votey in 1899; the name is sometimes used informally in reference to the business activities of Edwin S. Votey.
