Alternate Nameplate
Johann G. Pfeffer started the first firm. He retired in 1900, but apparently retained ownership of the firm which continued operation under his sons. The firm was sold to Kilgen in 1909, but may have continued under the original name until 1919.
The second firm was started by Johann's son George three years after the establishment of his father's firm, also in St Louis. Unclear if this was an expansion or a competition. George moved to Kansas City in 1889, again unclear if the firm operated there or if he was seeking new opportunities in another field.
