From the September 1957 issue of The Diapason: The installation of a three-manual Schantz organ is planned for October in the new Mershon Auditorium. Built with funds donated by Ralph Davenport Mershon, the building was completed in May at a cost of more than three million dollars. The hall seats 3,000 and will be used for many types of theatrical productions, as well as for music. The walls have been designed for sound-deflection. The organ is to be located entirely on the left side of the hall with aluminum grilles of abstract design covering the tone openings. The stoplist was written by Wilbur Held, head of the organ department.
Schantz made a number of improvements to the organ in 1969, including new ranks, additional pipes, re-regulating of some ranks, and the addition of an adjustable bench.
