An original installation. Identified by Rodney J. Weed, based on personal knowledge of the organ. -- I played this organ on a regular basis from September, 1960 through May, 1966 while a student at St. Lawrence Seminary. It was the organ in the Chapel built in 1957 and used as a Chapel through 1969. The pipes were located in two Chambers just below the Ceiling on the left (North) and right (South) side of the Sanctuary behind the main altar. There were no visible pipes. I do not know if the entire organ was new with the 1957 Chapel or was a rebuild and enlargement of the organ from the original seminary Chapel. The console and choir area were up in the front to the right (South) of the Sanctuary.
When the new Chapel was built in 1969, the Tellers company took pipes from this organ and from the Parish church organ (also a Schaefer) and used them in new 1970 Tellers organ opus 1100. To replace pipes from this organ used in the Tellers organ pipes were used from the Parish Church organ. At the time the intention was to have a usable organ in this building that was being converted to an auditorium/Theater. The console was never moved from its spot when it was a chapel. However that area became a storage room just off stage right.
When I visited on September 15, 2012, the console was still in its original place covered with stage materials which would not allow me to put the music rack up. The organ would turn on and some stops would still play but it is basically not useable in its current condition.
