Paul R. Marchesano on August 8th, 2024:

Organ removed in preparation for new Berghaus organ, retaining some ranks.

Information received online from Daniel Boin on 2024-08-07

Jim Stettner on December 10th, 2023:

I question the validity of the claim that the console was replaced by a used electronic console. Everything about the extant console says Kilgen: the shape, the stop style and lay-out, the engraved labels for lights, etc. and the placement of those peripherals, the placement of the missing builder's plate, and expecially the proprietary divisional cancel labels.

Jim Stettner on December 10th, 2023:

According to the parish website: http://www.stgilesparish.org/st-giles-pipe-organ-project/ : "The original organ has many missing parts. More than 32 years ago, an attempt was made to repair the organ. The company that did the work took out many of the best pipes and even the original console (the part where one sits and plays) and replaced it with an old electronic console. Over one third of the organ does not work or is missing parts – that means hundreds of pipes! The pipes that remain are bent or damaged from improper handling or careless tuning."

The parish has teamed with Berghaus Pipe Organs to remove and refurbish the 1928 Austin located in the Second Church of Christ, Scientist in Chicago, which is being demolished.

Database Manager on December 7th, 2015:

One console located behind the high altar and another in the 'balcony above the chancel for services without the choir;' combined at some point with a 3-manual Rodgers.
