In March, 2017, the church building sustained serious tornado damage; the previous pipe organ was completely destroyed except for three partial ranks of wood pipes. These pipes will be restored and revoiced for inclusion in the new instrument. The sanctuary was rededicated at the 10:00 AM service on Sunday 7 January 2018.
Opus 153 will be placed in a large niche at the front of the sanctuary, allowing it to speak unimpaired into the nave. Choir seating will be arranged on a platform in front of the organ. The stoplist, which includes a Great division and two enclosed divisions – Choir and Swell – was devised with emphases on the specific musical roles an organ must play in the Methodist liturgy, choral accompaniment, and solo organ repertoire.
An early 2019 delivery is planned.
