Originally built in 1854 for Christ Church, Montpelier, where it remained until a new Hutchings-Votey organ (Op. 1538) was installed in 1902. According to Edgar A. Boardway, organ historian, the Stevens & Jewett organ was then moved to First Baptist Church, Montpelier, where it remained until replaced by another second-hand organ about 1920.
