Henry W. Knauff, Sr.

The organ is known to be by Henry Knauff, whether Sr or Jr is not clear at this point. Organ is all enclosed with a hitch-down swell pedal. Principal, Flute and Clarinet stop action is spring loaded and may all be retired by pressing a treadle that withdraws all three stops and locks them in the off position.

The Clarinet does not appear to be an original stop. It is a beating reed from Middle C to the top. The tenor octave is a free reed of completely different character. It does not fit the rack board, toeboard or available space. The rackboard and toeboard has all 54 notes drilled through so this must have been some other stop originally.

The organ was originally from Elkton Presbyterian Church which gave/sold it to Wright's AME when they built their new building many years ago.

The bellows has been expertly releathered, still double rise but with the loss of original feeders. It was originally hand pumped with a handle poking out the back side of the organ. The wind knob mechanism was a spring loaded knocker the organist could pull to signal the pumper to get busy. The pumper could see the wind level with a tell-tale hanging on the back of the organ. There is now an electric blower to wind the organ. All facade pipes are decorative.
