Ross Street Presbyterian Church was organized in 1864. The first building (Chapel and Sunday-school) was completed in 1865; the Church building was opened in 1870. An article in The Brooklyn Daily Eagle (June 15, 1890) stated that a new organ by J.M. Mandeville had just been completed, replacing "the original organ that was furnished by Appleton, of Boston, fifty-three years ago..." or 1837, which predates the founding of the congregation.
